How to Import Products into Indonesia
Updated 14 Aug 2026. This article is educational and does not replace a project-specific review of current rules, classifications and authority practice.

Start with the product and importer

The right route depends on the goods, applicant/importer, HS classification, intended use and commercial model.

Separate importer identity from product approval

API, PI or other import requirements do not replace BPOM, SNI, POSTEL, medical, Halal or sector approvals where applicable.

Prepare shipment evidence

Documents, surveys, certificates, origin evidence and shipment timing should be planned before cargo moves.

Maintain import compliance after launch

Actual import reports, licence maintenance, product changes and recurring customs requirements should be added to the compliance calendar.

How IndoGateway approaches this

Start with the operating objective, then map the dependencies.

We connect corporate, licensing, product, site, workforce and recurring compliance workstreams around what the business actually plans to do.
